All you need to know about LED tweakments.
Did you know there’s a great way to rejuvenate your skin without using needles or scalpels?
The treatment? LED Light Therapy, also called Phototherapy, a simple non-invasive light-based mask treatment that takes up to 30 minutes.
LED Light Therapy has genuine skin boosting properties, is quick and easy and suits all skin colours and types, even sensitive. Used regularly it can calm inflammation, boost collagen banish breakouts, smooth wrinkles and make your skin plump and peachy.
Touted as the alternative Botox as it offers a more holistic approach to aging, it’s one of my absolute favourite treatments. Whether you’re going for a professional treatment or trying it at home, here’s everything you need to know about Light Therapy for your skin…
* Do check with your doctor if you suffer from epilepsy as some lights can be very bright and some are not recommended for those with a known genetic predisposition to light, genetic conditions of the eye or who are taking medications that increase sensitivity to light.
HOW LED WORKS
Originally developed by NASA to aid plants to grow in space, LED light (light-emitting diode) uses different wavelengths and works by naturally stimulating the skin at different depths depending on the colour of light used whether it’s red, blue or yellow. It can be used on the face or body.
THE LEADING LIGHTS
Red and Near Infrared – the most popular – increases collagen and elastin production so great for keeping skin plump and staving off wrinkles.
Near Infrared, has no colour but can reduce inflammation and redness in the skin. It also speeds up wound healing and reduces pigmentation.
Blue – kills acne-causing bacteria, regulates oil and sebum production, plus it’s anti-inflammatory so ideal if you suffer from breakouts. It works best on inflamed spots but won’t do much for black or whiteheads.
Yellow light is often used before treating the skin with other types of light as it helps them penetrate better. Also great as a glow booster and aids wound healing.
