My lips are chapped and sore even though I am using a lip balm twice a day? What am I doing wrong?
Because there are no oil glands in the lips, the lips are very prone to drying out, especially in cold, dry climates with little moisture in the air. Many lip products that are designed to soothe your mouth might also be doing the opposite. Some balms contain harsh ingredients that can zap lips of their moisture and irritate the surrounding skin. Look out for ingredients such as beeswax, mint, and cinnamon, which can all irritate the skin and avoid wearing matte lipsticks, as these aren’t hydrating enough for dry lips. Also avoid applying any strong facial ingredients such as retinoids on the lip area. Look for a lip product containing petroleum like Vaseline along with humectants that pull moisture from the air into the lips such as calendula, honey, aloe and shea butter,
